Launched in July 2023 as part of the HR Excellence portfolio, the Performance Management Program for staff has become pivotal in fostering accountability, communication, and collaboration between supervisors and staff. The program keeps employees and supervisors engaged year-round process that includes goal setting, mid-year check-ins, end-of-year reviews, and coaching throughout the year.

Staff and supervisors will complete end-of-year evaluations from May 7 through June 30. This phase marks the end of the performance management cycle for FY24 and a time for reflection and celebration. Staff and supervisors are encouraged to reflect on stated expectations and review performance documents, progress on goals, project outcomes, performance metrics, and other relevant evaluation criteria to prepare the final performance assessment.

During this process, supervisors and staff will meet to discuss staff accomplishments and areas for growth. This collaborative approach lays the groundwork for a purposeful and goal-oriented trajectory in the year ahead.

Performance management serves as a pathway to excellence by aligning individual efforts with the university’s goals and mission, fostering employee development, and enhancing overall organizational effectiveness. Underscoring the university’s commitment to this process, Rice has a goal of reaching 100% participation in staff performance evaluations by June 30. Staff and supervisors can help Rice achieve this goal by:

  • Completing a self-evaluation and, if applicable, a performance evaluation for each of your team members
  • Meeting with your supervisor/team members to discuss FY24 performance
  • Attending an HR Zoom training session for staff or supervisors
