F&A Updates for December 2023

Dear colleagues,

I recently learned about a significant recognition for the university. Rice has been awarded the Mansfield Rule certification, a national recognition for our commitment to diversity in hiring, promotion, and selection of external law firms. This certification underscores the university’s dedication to diversity and equitable opportunities, aligning with Rice's core values and efforts to build an inclusive community.

In other exciting news, I am excited to announce that John Moran has joined F&A as the interim senior associate vice president of Facilities & Capital Planning. John comes to Rice with over 30 years of experience in real estate, project management, and construction and design consulting. This experience will be key as he oversees the Capital Excellence Initiative, focusing on the university master plan and the capital governance process. Please welcome John to Rice!

Reflecting on our division's hard work this year, I look forward to the upcoming winter recess and the opportunity it affords us to rest and recharge. While many of us plan to be away from campus, I’d like to acknowledge and thank the members of our team who will continue working during this time, including RUPD and the Plant Operations Staff in F&CP. Their commitment to campus safety and infrastructure is invaluable, and I deeply appreciate their service.

Finally, as we look forward to returning to campus in the new year, I'm particularly excited to announce a new annual event for our division, the F&A New Year Celebration. Scheduled for Tuesday, January 9, this event is more than just a gathering—it's a heartfelt thank you for all the hard work and dedication you've shown. I look forward to seeing you in January to enjoy food, games, and lots of Rice swag!

With appreciation,

Kelly
